Benaras Food Festival at Dilli 32, The Leela Ambience Convention Hotel

For me it was like coming home. I have spent my formative years in Allahabad. Benaras and Lucknow were my favourite weekend destination. The food of benaras is very close to what we eat in Bihar. The entire belt that includes baliya, chapara and saran region were known as purvanchal and the food habits are pretty close, yet  the cooking process is little different in Bihar.I am big fan of street food of benaras and believe that when it comes to street food , it’s difficult to beat this city. From breakfast of kachori sabji and jalebi to the chaats in the evening and then followed by the delicious thandai –  Benaras has it all. From the sankatmochan hanuman mandir to the famous kasha temple to the ghats of benaras -The colour, vibrancy and traditions are all visible here. Tamatar ki chaat to the famous thandai to the sankatmochan ke laddu and not to miss Malaiyyo – Just walk down the bylanes of Varanasi and you would get mouthwatering gastronomical delights and along with it interesting stories of each food item.

This unique culinary experience and showcased the cuisine of Benaras. Benaras – the holy city, a place for salvation and foodie’s paradise. This being the oldest living city of the world – The food of benaras has lot of shades.benaras food festival, the leela ambience convention hotel, mysticfoodiemantra.com, maneesh srivastva, food and lifestyle blogger

The journey which The Leela Ambiance Convention Hotel started on GT Road has now reached Benaras, the holy city. Chef Ashwini Kumar is perhaps the finest chef we have in delhi for eastern india food specially. He went to benaras to understand the food and the culture of the city and came up with the idea of with this festival.

This festival is must for all the food lovers. This not only is an opportunity to gorge on excellent food, but also a chance to taste “real benaras” that isn’t available anywhere in Delhi.

My pick from the festival was tamatar ki chaat, the famous chaat of benaras, nimona( green peas daal) with choti kachori chaat and then bati chokha with homes style mutton ( you can’t miss this ) and puri sabji and jalebi ( I can purely survive on thisJ )

Boti and ghutwa kebab are for non-vegetarians to cherish as the flavours are different and mouthwatering

For me this festival is like going back to home. If you miss this, you are surely missing divinity in food!
