Whether it’s cooking or bartending, in today’s time nothing less than a high thrust of passion and an unstoppable drive to achieve is going to give the desired level of success. Industry demands par excellence and highest standards from professionals. Which brand other than Glenfiddich is fit enough to appreciate and recognize those who possess the desired level of competitiveness? We already know Glenfiddich, owned by William Grant & Sons is a leading brand in the Single Malt market space and is widely used in creating some of the smoothest cocktails.
Recently Glenfiddich held a competition for finding the most experimental bartender. I had the privilege to attend the finale that was held on 20th September at Q’la, Mehrauli. All the collaborators/contestants came from different walks of life. The big names include Prateek Jain and Gautam Seth (Light Installation Designer at Clove), Avinash Kumar (Visual Artist and Design Strategist At Blot), Hanif Kureshi (Typographer and Artistic Director At St+Art), Mia Morikawa (Textile Designer and Co-Founder at Korra Jeans), Gauri & Nainika (Fashion Designers), Zoravar Kalra (Restaurateur), Sameer Patange (Tattoo Artist), Prateeksh Mehra (Master Brewer) And Aneesh Bhasin (Photographer and Founder Of Hipcask).
I got a chance to interact with a few of the collaborators and tried to understand how not being a professional bartender they decided to take part in this competition. The most common answer I received was that their experiments in cocktail making are inspired by their own life experiences and the profession they belong to. The winners Prateeksh Mehra and Brijesh Vyas are no different. Prateeksh being a cheese maker himself infused Brie Cheese into his cocktails and the magic worked.
Struan Grant Ralph, Global Brand Ambassador, Glenfiddich and Rohit Bal were there to judge the contestants on various parameters and how they were using the glittering apparatus displayed by them to its full potential. Glenfiddich is doing a great job by celebrating the true spirit of bartending and is trying to bring out talent in the best possible way. And with contests like these, bartending is surely being pushed to the extreme.
