The Ancient Barbeque – Buffet with a difference

The weather is taking turns and it’s time to take out your grills and plan for those barbeque evenings. The barbeque technique is as ancient as mankind’s struggle with cooked food. If you would like to know the historyevolution of barbeque, I would want to share here an interesting link:

With the easy availability of commercial grills, barbeque parties during winters are quite a norm.You would have visited restaurants like barbeque Nation and pirates of Gill and I am sure most of you are die-hard fans of their hospitality as well as food. The unlimited starters and buffet with an affordable price tag has hit the right cord for these brands. You will be interested in knowing that three young entrepreneurs are trying to change the game and giving the biggies the run for their money. The brainchild of Ashish Messy, Dharmendra Singh and Vipin Kumar, The Ancient Barbeque is a concept similar to the likes of Barbeque Nation and Pirates of Grill, however Ancient Barbeque offers more variety in their spread, brilliant interiors, and excellent service. This also means you will now love to change your loyalty towards this place. The Ancient barbeque started at Noida early this year and opened in Gurgaon a month back. After delaying the visit for months, we finally landed at the TAB Gurgaon, couple of weeks back. It got opened a month back at the Good Earth City Center on the Sohna Road in Sector 48. At the empty looking commercial space, OM Sweets and TAB were the two posts which were buzzing. Placed at 2ndfloor, we were astonished to see the bright, inviting place. A 100 cover space with an alfresco section looked more of a fine dining place.
The next surprise was the spread and variety which is a mix of Indian, Continental and Oriental. Seven types of starters for both veg and non-veg, one soup each for veg and non-veg and giant buffet spread. This menu rotates every fortnight to bring the freshness. In starters, we simply loved the Cinnamon Grill Pineapple for aroma and rustic taste, Crispy Mayo Corn for tantalizing our taste buds. In starters, Green Garlic Prawns and Pudina Paneer Tikka were bland. But it came perfectly well, for our second serving when we shared this with the chef. Lagan Ki Seekh was served with Ulte Tawe Ka Paratha. While the delectable seekh was spicy, the paratha was  dry that it broke while rolling. This was I believe just 1 of all the odds and very clearly our next paranthas were better when we shared that we wouldn’t prefer our paranthas dry. The soups, Veg Manchow and Chicken Hot & Sour were good. The dinner buffet had the regulars, but I was thrilled to find Khadi Dal Palak and Amritsari Badi Pulao.  Memoirs of my childhood and I used to love eating Khadi Dal Palak with Methi Matar Pulao.  Amritsari Badi Pulao was cooked very well and the aroma of badis had added to the flavour. Other stars from the buffet were flavorful Dum Biryani and Murg Patiyali Shahi. Spicy, crisp gravy did wonders to the Murg. In desserts Gulab Jamun and Gulabi Kheerwere stellar. Soft, moist Gulab Jamuns and Creamy Kheer were had the perfect sweetness as per our liking.
The evening was jazzed up by live band singing old melodies of Kishore, Rafi and Mukesh. TAB defiantly provides a great experience with its service and value for money meal. The owners have checked all the right boxes and we could make it out as the restaurant was full on a weekday. Experience dining that gives you pleasure of amazing barbeque and just the way you like it with a range of sumptuous buffet followed by scrumptious Dessert!

Dinner: Rs. 619 for Veg and Rs. 699 for Non-veg  ++

I have always believed in that theory and have been trying to improve my dining experience. I am learning to appreciate various tastes, and expanding my horizon. For me, a great dining experience will be something where the serving challenges the conventional taste and stamps its authority. Be it a lavish spread of a five star hotel or a plate from a road-side shanty, my taste buds should be able to experience every single ingredient in the serving and the heart should always allure for it.
