Teppanyaki Experience at Chew – Pan Asian Café

Delhi’s heart – Connaught Place, has witnessed many iconic brands, some of them have stood up through the test of time, falling down. Still, new brands keep coming up in the hope to fill the hole. Chew, a Pan Asian Café, which had opened a few months back, promise to serve delectable Asian spread to its patrons. The interiors, though not truly Asian, are bright and funky, which gives it a very upmarket feel. I like the way they have used props and also swing chairs with round tables which are quite hit among couples.
I experience it couple of weeks back, when I visited Chew for the Teppanyaki Experience. The funkiness of the interiors is reflected in the design of the menu. Bright colors and doodles will surely take up your attention in their long and slightly confusing menu. The afternoon was surely looking delectable with a call to move to the chairs near the Teppanyaki counter. Teppanyaki is a Japanese style of cooking that uses an iron griddle for cooking food. The word teppanyaki is derived from teppan, which means iron plate and yaki, which means grilled, boiled or pan-fried. The Chef took us through the process of cooking on teppan while he churned out Grilled Prawns, Crispy Chicken, Chicken Teriyaki, Assorted Mushrooms, Grilled Mixed Vegetables and Mixed Fried Rice for the participants. I loved the informative session as well as the food. Post the session we also tried some dishes from the menu. I asked for the sushi platter and when it came, the vibrant colors on the plate really attracted me. I had sushi after very very long time, so cannot judge it on authenticity, but the flavors were balanced.

The desserts section, like other section is quite extensive. I ordered Tiramisu and Mangoffie Pie. I really loved the Mangoffie Pie. It was a good change from the regular Banoffie pies and is a part of a their mango special menu. It had the perfect quantity of mango bits and cream. Tiramisu was a let down for me as it was very sober and the that bitterness of liquor was missing.

We were so full that Chef offered us tea. We were served Earl Gray and Flower of Camomile. Both blends were finely balanced, but it was a disappointment to see an upmarket café serving industrial tea bags.
The afternoon was fun filled. I liked the place for the use of lively colors, quirky designs. The menu is pretty extensive and I could taste only few of the dishes from it, I am looking forward to visit again.
